Bathroom Makeover

BEFORE
When we first looked at this house, the downstairs powder room was... well... hideous! They sponge painted the walls red, green, and gold and hung golf themed wall paper boarder. They used a golf club as a towel rack and had golf trophies and pictures on the wall, but that wasn't the worst part. They had green CARPET on the floor *gasp*! Who puts carpet in a bathroom? How unsanitary!!! What if someone has bad aim (and I know it's bound to happen)? There were other ugly features, the vanity, lights, mirror, wooden toilet seat... it was all ugly. We knew that if we bought this house, a bathroom reno was in store.
So first things first! Dave and I ripped out that carpet and replaced it with tile. After we decided on the tile it was time to pick out paint.

Next we were off to Home Depot to pick out a new toilet, light fixture, towel rack, and toilet paper holder.
Later, we went to Ikea to choose the sink, vanity, and mirror.

With the help of my father-in-law, and Dave's painter friend Jason, we were able to turn this bathroom into something great. For the final touches, I bought some accessories, towels, soap, pictures, and really brought some personality into the space. Finally the bathroom went from "ugly golf" to "clean and inviting".

  1. another great job elisabeth! I love the after. just had to tell you that in the 'before' pic you can't even notice that you have a skylight! but in the after pic, it is so much more evident! oh and I LOVE the mirror! I have been planning on purchasing that for my powder room - but wasn't sure how big it was because i have only seen it online - but i see it is quite a good size! and a GREAT price!! If you have any decorating tips for a boys room - please share! my son is 1 year old and I don't want to decorate a 'nursery' because he is past that stage, but he is still too little for a 'big boy' room. any advice?? THANKS! :)

  2. Hey!! I'm glad you like our little makeover! I'm so sorry that I haven't been posting a lot. I'm in the play "Savior of the World" and rehearsals have been taking over my life. I do have some great idea for a boys room AND a home made quilt that I mad for my son's room. I still need to take some pictures and finish the binding, but it will be posted shortly. Stay tuned!!

  3. totally understand! my mother in law and brother in law are both in, and they're never home anymore!!! i am really looking forward to coming to see it soon!!! probably an evening next week. i am not quite sure yet. on a side note, trying to feed my 1 year old son, so irritating these days! he's seeming to have grown out of the, 'i'll eat anything' stage, and grown into 'i'll eat the same extremely limited menu as my sisters' so if you come up with some really great hidden veg kiddie lunches/meals that would be fantastic. actually, have you ever read, deceptively delicious by seinfelds wife? its really neat. i heard she was being sued for stealing the idea from someone else, but i really like her book!!
good luck with the rehearsals and the upcoming performances!! ;)
